Research Interests:
I am generally interested in the behavioral ecology of marine mammals, and how we can use behavior as an indicator of habitat use. My background was primarily focused on surface behavior and photo-id work of a variety of cetacean species. However, surface behavior comprises only a small portion of the world of marine mammals, and so by also recording acoustic behavior I hope to gain a better overall understanding of behavioral, diel and seasonal patterns of delphinids. If we can understand the normal patterns that these animals display, then we will better recognize changes in those patterns as a response to both natural and anthropogenic changes in the environment. In the long run I hope that gaining a better understanding of both surface and acoustic behavioral patterns and habitat use will allow us to minimize our impacts on the marine environment.
